Digital Storytelling for Research and Advocacy Workshop

Welcome to the Re•Vision Story-Making Workshop!

We are very excited to work with you over the next two weeks as you create your digital story.  On this website you will find an agenda for the four-session workshop and some resources that the facilitator will explain on our first day.

What is the goal of this workshop?

Digital Storytelling is a research method using self-expression through art that centers participants’ voices and experiences. It is a collaborative way to tell or create stories using technology, combining images, videos, music, art, sound or text. Storytellers create 2-3 minute stories in response to a prompt or question or talk about their lives and experiences.

What is the workshop like? What can I expect?

This three-week choose your own adventure experience will include both online and in-person options to choose from. It will provide an overview of digital storytelling as a method for a range of applications and a hands-on experience with an online, collaborative, video editing software, WeVideo to produce your own short film.

Online and In-Person, you will learn about:

  • sound design,
  • visual representation, and
  • advanced editing skills.

In-Person, we will offer:

  • animation tools and techniques,
  • spoken word poetry.

There will be facilitators from Re•Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice to support everyone with any tech-related questions, to discuss ideas or support with any story element.

Participants will be invited into story circles and one-to-one chats to learn the tech, get support or brainstorm ideas.
